Christmas is a good time to make decorations with your own hands and reuse materials. In this project I show you how to do a Christmas tree of fabric wearing an old long sleeves shirt, in an easy way and without spending money.
With this idea you can turn a T-shirt into a simple Christmas ornament to decorate your house. You don't need to know much or have special tools, you just want to try something new and have a good time doing something nice.

Sewing materials Christmas tree of fabric
- A T-shirt or polish that you no longer wear or fabric with Christmas stamping or flat color of your preference
- Filling (wadding, silicone vellum or fabric slices)
- 10mm satin tape
- Cascabel and / or bell
Sewing tools
- Color thread of fabric
- Needle
- Poultry
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
💡 Additional tips:
- If the T-shirt is very elastic, it avoids stretching the fabric when sewing so that the tree does not deform.
- Use short stitches to make seams firm and not open with the filling.
- If the tree does not stand, add a little more filling to the base.
Step by step: how to make a Christmas tree of fabric
1. Prepare the garment
Start by selecting a shirt that is in good condition, even if you don't wear it anymore. In my case, I used a garment. size 2XL, which allowed me to use more fabric to give volume to the tree. In addition, the T-shirt had pieces that look like the branches of a pine, so it was perfect for this project.
If necessary, wash and iron the garment before starting to make the fabric more even and easy to work.
2. Cut the mold
Place the mold on the fabric and check it with pins. If the fabric is elastic, as in my case, make sure that the elasticity is in the width of the tree. Then cut six pieces the same.
3. Sew the pieces
Unite the two pieces of fabric, right with right, and sew the whole contour leaving two small openings at the bottom. If the fabric is elastic, stitch with a short straight stitch or zigzag for greater resistance.
Then cut the strips and make small cuts on the corners. This helps to make the curves more sharp and in better shape. Once turned, use a stick or something to gently push the pine curves and mark the shape well.
Then it marks half the pine, which will be the line where we will sew. Lick all three parts, align them and mark them with a pin. Finally, stitch with short straight stitch, leaving about 3 cm unsewed on the top. Then we cut the peas.
4. Fillr and close
For the filler I am using old wadding, forming little peas to make the tree soft and spongy. With the help of a stick, push the filling to the top to make the tip well formed. If you don't have any wadding, you can also use cloth slices.
Finally, gather the three tips and hand-eat them to join them. The opening we leave at the bottom to enter the filling is closed with invisible stitch or a short straight stitch, as you prefer.
5. Decorate
To decorate you have many options, such as pompons, rattlesnakes, little bells or a tie. The detail you choose is hand-stitched on each tip of the tree to make it well firm.
